Project Brief

Through the good window, people can save more energy and money through the adiabatic effects using less heating and air conditioning.
To help manage windows, this hidden display handle was made. It looks like a normal handle when first seen but when the weather changes, users can move the handle or click the button and the display will show the information about the weather and advise users on whether to open or close the door.

1. Ideation

Initially, we were going to display many forms of information to prove this window is able to improve the lives of users. Therefore, we added widgets such as weather information, life index (good for walking, laundry, car wash things), air quality (about fine dust), and how much money they can save.

2. Result

After much discussions, we started to ask questions such as 'is this really what the user wants to know? is this really what they need?'.
As a result, we decided to remove the unwanted information and added them into the app instead.

(‌also the preparation of the mobile application too so, don't have to show all the information in this handle.)

Users are not always staying close to use the handle a lot, we decided to just add relevant weather information to the user can control the window to manage the house air condition.

3. What I learn

There were many difficulties in this project.
The display panel's quality was not good compared to the likes of mobile devices and the size was smaller than the handle.

I kept thinking about functions that were not possible at that point.

(Like sound, touch screen, larger screen, automatic closing and opening.)
It would be nice to have those functions and many designers can make good result to use that functions. However, I realized that the reality is not always that supportive so ‌I have to find the solution in that limited situation and that's one of my jobs.

So next time I will focus on the current situation and try to find the best way.
